2. General information

We process personal data only insofar as this is necessary for the secure and reliable operation of this website, for communicating with you, for processing your enquiry or for fulfilling applicable obligations.

3. Hosting, domain and server operation

This website is hosted by Hostinger. Domain and DNS services are provided through GoDaddy. When the website is accessed, technically necessary connection and server data may be processed to deliver the requested page and to enable stability, security and error analysis. The specific Hostinger-side log fields and retention periods are not determined by the website implementation.

Insofar as this processing is our responsibility, it is based on Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO. Our legitimate interest is the secure, stable and error-free operation of the website.

4. Appointment and contact enquiries

Through the appointment enquiry form we process first name, last name, email address, telephone number, requested date and requested time, optionally an alternative date with alternative time, an optional message, the selected appointment type, where applicable the type of repair, the referring page and the language of the enquiry. The information is checked and sent as plain-text email to servus@franzoptics.at. Information submitted through the form is not additionally stored permanently as a form entry in the WordPress database.

To protect against automated or excessively frequent enquiries, a security value that is not directly readable is formed from the IP address and a limited part of the browser identification. Only a counter and an expiry time of 15 minutes are stored server-side for this security value. The IP address and browser identification are not stored as plain text in an enquiry record by this protection mechanism.

If an enquiry concerns pre-contractual measures or an existing contractual relationship, processing is based on Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO. We process other ordinary enquiries on the basis of Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO; our legitimate interest is the proper handling of the contact request.

Ordinary enquiries are generally deleted no later than 12 months after their final handling, unless further storage is required because the enquiry results in a contractual or business relationship or a statutory retention obligation applies. Separate requirements apply to invoices, accounting records, contractual documents and other business records that must be retained by law.

5. Email and telephone

Business email communication is handled through Google Workspace or Gmail. If you write to us by email or use the appointment enquiry form, your message, contact details and technically necessary message information are processed there. The retention rule described above applies to ordinary enquiries.

Telephone and email links on this website open the application configured for this purpose on your device only after you select them. They are not tracking functions.

6. Functional browser storage for the Opening Entrance

When you close the Opening Entrance, the website uses functional browser storage, localStorage, to store this preference locally in your browser: franz_opening_entrance_dismissed=1. This value is not transmitted to FRANZ OPTICS for analytics or profiling and is not used for marketing. If you delete browser or website storage, the preference is reset.

7. Cookies, browser storage and your privacy settings

Without your analytics consent, FRANZ OPTICS does not set analytics or marketing cookies. Through this website’s privacy settings, you can consent to reach measurement with Matomo (“Allow analytics”) or decline it (“Necessary only”). Your decision is stored in your browser in the first-party cookie franz_consent (value necessary or analytics, duration approximately 180 days) and can be changed or withdrawn at any time through the footer link “Privacy settings”. Only after analytics consent may Matomo set its own measurement cookies; the Matomo cookies used are described in section 8. Necessary WordPress functions, especially login and administration, may use their own cookies in other usage situations. The server-side protection mechanism described above is not a browser cookie.

8. Analytics with Matomo

FRANZ OPTICS uses Matomo to analyse website usage. Matomo is operated within our WordPress installation through the “Matomo Analytics for WordPress” plugin. The analytics data is processed in our WordPress environment; no external analytics service such as Google Analytics is used for this purpose. Matomo is activated only if you have expressly selected “Allow analytics” beforehand. Without this consent, the Matomo counter is not loaded, no Matomo requests are sent and no Matomo cookies are set.

The legal basis for analytics is your consent under Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO. Consent is voluntary; there are no disadvantages if you do not provide it. You may withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future through the footer link “Privacy settings”; the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal remains unaffected.

After analytics consent, Matomo sets its own cookies in your browser to distinguish returning visitors from new visits. These include cookies with names such as _pk_id.* and _pk_ses.*; depending on the Matomo version, additional Matomo cookies may be added. If you switch back to “Necessary only” in the privacy settings, the Matomo cookies are removed and no further analytics takes place.

Matomo shortens your IP address during analytics: Matomo masks the last 2 bytes of the IP address before further processing. The full IP address is not stored for analytics purposes. Matomo uses its standard-configured DB-IP geolocation for approximate regional assignment. No MaxMind service is configured.

The raw data collected by Matomo—the individual visit and action logs—is automatically deleted as soon as it is more than 360 days old. Aggregated analyses derived from this raw data—summarised reports without individual events—are not automatically deleted after 360 days and may remain available beyond that period.

Matomo is used exclusively to analyse the reach and use of this website, not for advertising and not for cross-site tracking. Visits by logged-in internal roles—including administrators, editors and shop managers, as well as Matomo’s own roles—are excluded from collection. Matomo includes its own consent notice; it is not activated because FRANZ OPTICS’ privacy settings are the sole authoritative consent layer.

FRANZ OPTICS does not use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager or Meta Pixel. There is no newsletter signup, external booking service, FAVEO/IOM website integration or embedded map, video or social-media feed. Social-media services and other external websites are opened only through ordinary links. A connection to the target page is established only when you follow such a link.

9. WooCommerce

WooCommerce is technically installed, but the shop is not reachable in the current public state. This website currently has no public shopping cart, customer account, checkout or online payment. Before the online shop is made publicly available, the actual processing activities and this privacy information will be reviewed again.

10. Your rights

Subject to the statutory requirements, you have in particular the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. To exercise your rights or ask questions about processing, please write to servus@franzoptics.at.

If you believe that the processing of your personal data infringes data-protection law, you may lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority: Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, email: dsb@dsb.gv.at, website: dsb.gv.at.

11. Changes to this privacy information

We update this privacy information when the website or the associated processing activities change. New analytics, marketing, newsletter, booking, embedding, shop, payment or other third-party functions will be technically and privacy-law reviewed again before they are made publicly available.
